This BioTorsdag focuses on Digital twin technology, a technology which is emerging as an innovative tool in life science. Desalegn Chala, from Natural History Museum, will explain what a Digital twin is and how this technology has potential to revolutionizing knowledge production and decision-making processes.A digital twin (DT) is a digital representation of a physical object or process in real or near-real time. Initially developed for industrial purposes, but now the technology is emerging as an innovative tool in life science, potentially revolutionizing knowledge production and decision-making in fields like forestry, agriculture, and biodiversity conservation.
In this talk Desalegn Chala will explain what a digital twin is, drawing examples from the digital twins that we commonly use in our day to day lives. He will also discuss how digital twins are being used in ecology, showcasing examples from existing projects.
And lastly share exciting developments from the Biodiversity Digital Twin Project, led by researchers at the Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, illustrating how digital twins are shaping the quest for food security.
Through these examples he will showcase how digital twins unlock unprecedented opportunities to model complex environmental systems, enhance the generation of knowledge in life science, and support informed decision-making processes.
