This free program is offered as part of the WVU College of Creative Arts and Media First Amendment and Free Expression semester-long programming. This workshop recognizes that digital safety and security is necessary for exercising free expression and protecting a free press in a digital landscape.
Please join us for a 3-hour, hands-on workshop of security training designed for local and regional news organizations, independent and citizen journalists, and other at-risk practitioners in communications, education, the arts and civil society organizations. This training is designed to sharpen your digital security skills, conduct a personal or organizational threat assessment, and to build your digital resilience and other skills for safe, ethical best practices online and in the field.
Participants will be able to address security risks and settings across devices, platforms, and different types of media, learn new tools and actionable steps to mitigate risks and improve the security of your devices, your data, your internet footprint and your identity. These practices can help organizations and independent practitioners prepare for, respond to, and recover from threats against themselves or their employees when undertaking sensitive work.
