Digital Photography Fundamentals

This four-week course picks up where Digital Photography 101 leaves off, built for photographers who already know how to set their camera up in manual exposure mode, and want to shoot with more confidence.

Over four sessions we will work through metering and exposure in the situations that fool your camera, focus modes and shutter speed choices that give you sharp frames or deliberate blur, the quality and direction of natural light, and a start-to-finish workflow from memory card to finished file.

Two of our sessions take us out of the classroom and into the field at the Tampa Riverwalk and the USF campus, where we will practice on moving subjects and hunt for good light together.

Weekly photo challenges between sessions give you something to bring back, and our final class closes with a friendly group critique so you leave with real feedback on your work.

Session Overview:

• September 6th 10am to 12pm (FMoPA): Metering modes, the histogram, exposure compensation, and white balance past auto
• September 13th 10am to 12pm (Tampa Riverwalk): AF area modes, back-button focus, panning, freezing motion, and depth of field
• September 20th 10am to 12pm (USF Campus) Hard and soft light, direction, simple modifiers, composition, and lens choice
• September 27th 10am to 12pm (FMoPA): RAW files, culling and backup, a Lightroom develop pass, and group critique

Requirements

Best suited for photographers who have taken Digital Photography 101 or who already know how to set their camera up for manual exposure. Must have a dslr or mirrorless camera, fully charged batteries, and memory card. Laptop for editing not required.
