About this Event
Welcome to the Digital Humanities Institute 2026!
In partnership with North Carolina State University Libraries, The Digital Humanities Collaborative of North Carolina will host the 2026 institute at NC State's Centennial Campus. This year's theme, From Manuscript to Megabyte: Building Sustainable and Open Futures in the Digital Humanities, will include discussion on the evolving landscapes of knowledge creation and access and foreground the vital role of libraries, open education, and sustainable academic systems in bridging traditional and emerging media forms. From medieval manuscripts to metadata, from analog archives to augmented reality, we aim to explore how digital humanities can serve as a bridge between past and present—anchoring the humanities in systems that are accessible and enduring.
In a moment of shrinking public investment in the humanities and education more broadly, digital tools and platforms have become more than research aids—they are foundational to preserving cultural memory, expanding access, and sustaining scholarly ecosystems. We seek to engage educators, librarians, practitioners, and policy advocates in a collective dialogue around the structural, legal, and ethical frameworks that shape how media—both old and new—circulate in academic, public, and community contexts.
This conference provides an opportunity to reimagine digital humanities not only as a space for innovative research, but as a catalyst for open, sustainable, and inclusive educational practices.
