Digital asset business models are moving faster than the frameworks meant to govern them. The Parliamentary Standing Committee's recent call for self-regulation has rekindled policy debates. During Devcon week, Trilegal and Fractional are convening a roundtable in Mumbai to bring leaders from across leading international and Indian industry players into one room for a candid conversation on the Indian regulatory, policy and tax landscape, in which active participation is welcome.
What we'll discuss
1. An overview of Indian regulatory and tax considerations for digital assets. A practitioners' look at the latest legal developments in India, including on stablecoins, tokenisation and FIU registration, and what that means for anyone advising or building in this space.
2. India and global markets. A comparative view across jurisdictions on how compliance regimes are taking shape, alongside a dedicated look at how different markets, including the U.S., E.U. and Singapore, are approaching the regulation of stablecoins and tokenised assets. Is the gap between India and these markets widening too much?
3. An ideal regulatory and tax framework for India. Thoughts on what progressive regulation will look like for India. Is an omnibus regulator required or can existing regulators take charge? Is withholding tax essential? What is the role of GIFT City in such a framework? A debate on the pros and cons of each.
