Crack your own geode and see the magic inside!
About this Event

Join us at the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd, Boise 83712, for a fun time of geode-cracking, a short and easy geo-hike on the nearby hillside, and a walk-about with guides in the museum. Please arrive at geode-cracking at your assigned time. Geode-cracking takes place outside under shade canopies on grass of the historic Women’s Pr*son Courtyard.

A 35 minute, easy hillside geo-hike is scheduled for 11:30am. Your guide will explain the geologic history of the Boise valley from a a vantage point on the hillside near the museum. Inside the museum you'll be able to walk among interesting, historic and beautiful exhibits with docents nearby to answer questions and discuss displays.

All adults are required to pre-register and pay the entry fee. Each child must be preregistered and they are free. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

If you have never cracked open a geode with a giant pipe-cutter, you are in for an exciting moment. What Mother Nature has created is truly amazing and inspiring. The cracking crew is led by Master Geode-cracker Truman Keith.

This event is supported by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council!
