Dig + Disconnect Workshops - Fear Of A Zine Planet

Dig + Disconnect is Miyagi Records’ weekly Friday workshop series built around slow listening, creative practice, and community time.

Each session opens up a different entry point into music culture — from digging and taste-making to open decks, zine-making, guest selectors, and hands-on skill-building. It’s for collectors, DJs, artists, listeners, and anyone looking to step away from the scroll and reconnect with sound in real life.

=== about the workshop ===
Zines are heavily tied to the punk scene of the 1970s, used as a way to show love to favorite bands and artists of the time. Punk zines often included elements like essays, music reviews, and interviews. During this zine workshops, participants are encouraged to make music themed zines of their own. This can look like zines with favorite song lyrics, love letters to artists/bands, themed playlists, music reviews, etc. Participants will leave with their own zines and are encouraged to make copies to share with others. Participants are encouraged to bring clippings, magazines, etc that they want to include in their zines.

Musu Bangura is an artist originally from Washington, D.C. and currently residing in Chicago, Illinois. They are the author of the essay-book “…Considers Lil’ Kim’s Hard Core.” Their work has been published in New Delta Review, Apogee Journal, BRINK Literary, Southeast Review, and more. They are a zinester and believe in the revolutionary power of self-publishing.
