Diaspora Ensemble

Diaspora Ensemble will play music from Greece, Turkey, and the Balkans and songs from the Sephardic repertoire. The band is delighted to return to the Red Poppy with talented friends Joe Rosato on bass and Zina Pozen on accordion, plus the enchanting dancer Nicole Maria.

Diaspora Ensemble plays music from Greece, Turkey, the Balkans, and Afghanistan, and songs from the Sefardic repertoire sung in Ladino. The soulful and lively tunes and songs in varied meters transport the listener to exotic lands and are often vehicles for improvisation.
Leah Sirkin (violin, vocals) Tano Brock (clarinet, laouto, vocals), and Steven Brock (tabla, kanjira, frame drum) are the core members of this family band from San Francisco. Diaspora has been performing at venues and events in the Bay Area since 2010.
