In Diaspora Grooves, get ready to move and groove to the infectious rhythms of contemporary Black music in this high-energy dance fitness class. Diaspora Grooves features an eclectic playlist, including R&B, Afrobeats, hip-hop, and more, ensuring there's a beat for everyone to dance to. Alicia has designed the choreography to be easy to follow so that everyone can jump in and enjoy this dance fitness party. Each song will have its own set of movements that blend seamlessly with the music, allowing you to dance with confidence and joy. This class is a movement ride that takes you everywhere from lean wit, rock wit it cool flows, to high energy bouncy beats that will have your booty and heartbeat poppin’ and droppin’! Diaspora Grooves is all about spreading positivity, fostering a sense of community, and celebrating the joy of dance. We welcome people of all dance levels and backgrounds to join the fun and share in the uplifting experience. So, lace up your dancing shoes, bring your energy, and let's dance, groove, sweat, and SLAY together!
Meet your instructor:
Alicia Langlais is a Bay Area dance instructor and performer, the Head of the dance program at Oakland’s The College Preparatory School, and a Dance Inspiration Coach. Alicia is known for her signature dance style, which integrates Afro-diasporic aesthetics and movements with her passion for ballet and contemporary dance, grounded in her training at the Harlem School of the Arts and The Ailey School. Alicia is the creator of Diaspora Dance, a Caribbean Vibes meets Afro Pop dance party class, an all-levels movement experience that celebrates Black joy through the lens of contemporary afro-diasporic dances. She is also the Creative Director of the 3X “Best Choreography” award-winning group, the Diaspora Dance Black Joy Parade Performance Team. This team is a collective of Black-identifying movers, of all backgrounds and levels, that come together for the purpose of building community around shared experiences of Black Joy and healing, through dance, from the challenges of the Black experience.
