Diaspora Dance Black Joy Parade Team

The 2X "Best Choreography" award winning Diaspora Dance Black Joy Parade Dance Team is an affinity experience for Black-Identifying community members desiring to join together for the purpose of connecting to fellow members to find wellness, healing, and joy through group process and dance. This year's theme is "R.I.Z.E. Up--Revolution In Zen Energy". Our community building and group process will focus on personal growth/introspective-based concepts and practices as a means of building individual and community resilience for the greater purpose of liberation and love. This year's activities will include a sound bath, expressive arts, and meditation, to name a few. Of course, each rehearsal experience will be anchored by learning two fun and accessible dance routines for Oakland's Black Joy Parade taught by Creative Director, Alicia the Dance Dragon Slayer, and this year's guest choreographer, Chris Rodriguez.

PLEASE NOTE: this is a Black-identifying affinity group, meaning that it is for individuals that identify as Black in their everyday lives. With great respect to those with Black ancestry or connection to the Black community as allies or through personal relationships with Black loved ones, we ask that you respect the membership of this group as a sacred space for people that identify as Black every day. The intention of our group process is to create a safe space for Black-identifying people to openly discuss experiences while obtaining healing through our connection via shared experiences, and ultimately pouring those connections into our expression of joy through dance.
