Centrala presents the first solo exhibition of Andrius Arutiunian in the UK, 'Diaphonics'.
The exhibition will consist of 'You Do Not Remember Yourself' a 6-meter-long musical instrument co-commissioned by Centrala, CTM Festival and Armenia Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale, along with 'Do Not Fear, Then!', a work of four voices, based on Armenian incantations and spells. The piece sources ancient spells from the felt-beaters of the city of Moks recorded through the secret language of Ruštuni. Arutiunian will also present a video installation, which has never been exhibited before, a new work representing contemporary nodes of sonic dissent.
The exhibition will be accompanied by this year's Eastern Incantations, an experimental music festival showcasing the work of Lithuanian experimental musicians and more, and with Andrius Aruturnian Headline the second night with mesmerising aural cosmologies.
About the artist:
Andrius Arutiunian (b.1991) is an Armenian-Lithuanian artist and composer based in Paris and The Hague. Arutiunian works with hybrid forms of sound through objects, installations and performances. Alternate modes of political and musical organisation, sonic dissent, and playful investigation of esoteric and vernacular histories form Arutiunian’s most recent works. Through aural cosmologies, non-western tuning systems, and the use of resonance and speculative instruments, Arutiunian works with sound as a world-ordering method.
