Melkor’s Discord had thrown Arda in turmoil. Shunned, jealous, and filled with hate, he sought refuge in the mighty Keep of Utumno. The bones of this fortress have been lost to time. A mighty battle between the Valar and The Fell that would ultimately decide the fate of all of Arda was fought here. The battle raged for decades as the besieged Melkor turned to his Fell creations to destroy his Valar brethren. Immortal, yes, but not invulnerable to the pain of a blade or a fiery whip. In his dark, deep dungeons, he corrupted seven Maiar, great beings lesser than the Valar, and they were changed into the Valaraukar. We know them in legend as the Balrogs, the most known being Durin’s Bane. In this tale, we shall explore the final days of the siege.
