Join us to discuss how to make Greater Manchester a better place for women and girls
About this Event

Come join us on 2nd July 2022 for our 1st summer event! We'll be marking the anniversary of The Equal Franchise Act of 1928 which granted equal voting rights to women and men.

Since 2018, we've been revealing the latest scorecard data to see how Greater Manchester is faring for gender equality in the previous twelve months, and we'll continue to do so to 2028 - the centenary of equal franchise. You can see past reports on our website.

In collaboration with GMCA Women & Girls Panel, come and join the dialogue, and debate with policy makers on how to turn the data into deeds.

Saturday 2nd July 2022

12pm - 4pm

Alliance Manchester Business School

Our working groups focus on employment, safety, participation, education, culture and active lives. In addition, we choose a cross-cutting theme for the year. In 2022 we have been focussing on paid and unpaid care. Together we agree key asks to campaign on to strive for better gender equality in GM. What ideas do you have to work towards equality?

Workshops confirmed:

Capturing Women’s Voices in Greater Manchester

The University of Manchester is designing a survey with GM4Women2028, and we’d like you to be involved! The survey will include a representative cross-section of women across the region and will explore their lives, views and experiences in Greater Manchester.

Coaching skills

Find out more about what coaching can do for you. Queen Bee Coaching provides free coaching that enables women from diverse backgrounds to realise their full potential.

Full schedule to be confirmed - get in touch with your ideas (gm4women2028 [at] gmail.com).

Want to run your own workshop? Great! Here are some potential topics to discuss, suggested by members of the community:

  • Minoritised women’s experiences of rape and domestic abuse and the police’s response to this.
  • GM violence strategy and those involved talking about what the next steps are in terms of how they are operationalising/monitoring this.
  • Barriers at work, particular issue of maternity policies and attitudes, women sharing their experiences and employers their policies.
  • Women’s experiences around public safety and active lives talking to designers of the urban environment.
  • Girls and football addressing the churn, i.e. girls start playing but then the barriers/attitudes start to impact on them and they stop playing.

Still wondering whether this event is for you?

Cake and refreshment will be available at the venue! Plus, we will be showcasing cultural talent from across the boroughs.

It is sure to be a brilliant platform for discussion and celebration, so bring along your friends.

Courage and Solidarity.

Get in touch if you need financial support to be able to attend. We have bursaries available for care and transport costs.
