Presented by Small World Music and Constantinople
Inspired by the historic encounter between Francis of Assisi and Sultan Malik al-Kâmil, Constantinople joins forces with one of Europe’s most bold and imaginative early music ensembles, Holland Baroque. Amid the turmoil of the Crusades, this unexpected dialogue—marked by mutual respect and attentiveness—became a timeless symbol of peace and understanding.
Blending ancient and contemporary musical traditions from both East and West, the two ensembles bring this spiritual legacy to life through a free and daring musical language. This collaboration transcends borders, celebrates otherness, and invites audiences on an emotional journey where music becomes a bridge between worlds—a celebration of our shared humanity.
About the Ensembles:
Founded in 2001, Constantinople explores early and traditional music through a lively and inventive approach. The ensemble blends historical repertoire, world traditions, and improvisation, creating performances that transcend cultural boundaries. Renowned for international tours and acclaimed recordings, Constantinople collaborates with musicians from diverse backgrounds to reveal the richness and vitality of both ancient and contemporary music.
Holland Baroque is dedicated to historically informed performances of European Baroque music. Founded by passionate musicians, the ensemble is known for its technical precision, expressive energy, and stylistic sensitivity. Its concerts and recordings showcase the vibrancy and depth of Baroque repertoire, offering audiences an authentic and refined musical experience. Holland Baroque regularly collaborates with renowned soloists and ensembles, solidifying its reputation on the international stage.
