Learn how to kick diabetes to the curb at our Diabetes Prevention Program starting on July 23rd at 10 a.m.!
About this Event

Our year-long program engages participants in 25 sessions and focuses on small, measurable lifestyle goals. The curriculum is CDC-approved and is part of the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program.
Note: The program is only for individuals who live in New York City (NYC)

Program Details – IN PERSON GROUP in Manhattan Henry Street Location

Information Session - July 23(Tuesday) from 10-11 am.

Program Information

  • CDC recognized programs focusing on lifestyle changes.
  • Program one year in length – weekly sessions for the first 6 months, One session every other week for the next 6 months.
  • The program will focus on proper nutrition, activity, coping with stress, sleep hygiene, overcoming challenges and staying accountable for changes.
  • Sessions held by Registered Dietitian and Certified Lifestyle Coach


Program Goals:

  • Prevent or delay Type 2 diabetes onset
  • Weight loss of 4-5% of CBW, weight loss should be accomplished in the first 6 months.
  • Reach 150 minutes of physical activity per week in the first 6 months.
  • Reduce A1c by 0.2 points.
  • Participants will be responsible for tracking and reporting weight, minutes of activity and A1c changes.


Program Outcomes – most recent.

  • 8 out of 9 participants lost weight since the start of the program (89%)
  • 6 of the 8 have lost 5% or more of their starting weight (75%)
  • The highest weight loss reached was 16%
  • Significant weight loss was observed at the 6-month mark.
  • All 8 participants were able to maintain their weight loss until the end of the program


Participant Eligibility - The program is intended for prediabetic adults ages 18+ at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.


Common Questions:

How long does it take to reduce A1C levels? You can lower your A1C levels in a couple of months with proper guidance and dedication! The normal A1C level for a non-diabetic is below 5.7%. If you are struggling with your A1C levels, our dietitian and lifestyle coach can help guide you to lower them. 75% of participants were able to decrease their HbA1c levels below the prediabetes range!

What percentage of prediabetes develop diabetes? According to Harvard Health, 25% of people with prediabetes will develop diabetes in a span of 3 to 5 years.

Where to get tested for diabetes or prediabetes: Ask your primary provider/doctor to see a copy of your annual physical labs or ask to get tested if you are concerned about your health.
