Dia de Los Muertos Week Oct 25-Nov 2, Downtown Highland Park

Downtown Highland Park invites the community to its 2nd Annual Día de los Muertos Week a celebration of life culture and tradition inspired by this cherished Mexican holiday. From October 25 through November 2 the district will come alive with colorful displays cultural activities and themed experiences led by local businesses!

The week begins with a free community celebration on Saturday October 25 from 3–5 PM at the Memorial Park Gazebo (405 Prospect Ave). Guests can enjoy music and cultural displays anchored by a large-scale Ofrenda designed by local artist Jessica Rivero dedicated to corn and seed as symbols of life.

Throughout the week visitors can explore a variety of cultural experiences including Latino food and drink tastings cooking demonstrations art and performances via Downtown Highland Park participating businesses.

Visitors can enhance their experience with a DDM Experience Pass available for $35 in advance ($45 at the kick-off event). Passholders gain access to exclusive hands-on workshops such as sugar skull decorating papel picado pan de muerto baking and cempasúchil flower arranging along with wine and tequila tastings.

The week concludes with the Catrina Fashion Show & Contest on Sunday November 2 from 2–4 PM. Passholders enjoy VIP admission to this event where community members showcase elaborate costumes floral headdresses and makeup inspired by La Catrina celebrating heritage and storytelling through this iconic figure.
