Dharavi Walk: Through the histories to communities and their cultures
Advertisement
A culmination of personal research, constant interactions and relationships with community members, and deep diving into personal histories and archives. This Dharavi walk offers an opportunity to explore one of Mumbai's most dynamic and misunderstood neighbourhoods through its histories, people, and everyday life. Moving beyond common stereotypes, the walk traces Dharavi's evolution through migration, labour, industry, social spaces and community building. Participants will encounter stories of migration, structures and spaces important to the communities, the role and symbolism of important social reformers and historical leaders, and cultural diversity while gaining a deeper understanding of how residents have shaped the area over generations. The walk invites visitors to engage with Dharavi as a living, evolving urban landscape rather than merely a site of poverty or informal settlement.
