DFSMT International Conference- Music theory and Education through the ages

De Nederlands-Vlaamse Vereniging voor Muziektheorie organiseert in samenwerking met het Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag een internationaal congres met als thema Music theory and Education through the Ages. Het congres wordt gehouden op 7-8 maart in het kader van de festiviteiten rond het 200-jarig bestaan van het Koninklijk Conservatorium in 2026.
Het thema van het congres kan worden benaderd vanuit diverse repertoires, stijlen, genres en uitvoeringspraktijken. De Vereniging acht het interessant en belangrijk dat diverse educatieve aspecten en benaderingen uit het brede veld van het muziektheorieonderwijs aan bod komen. We zijn verheugd om dr. Michelle Phillips, Head of Enterprise (Academic) en Senior Lecturer in Music Psychology aan het Royal Northern College of Music, te mogen verwelkomen als onze keynote spreker. Onderaan deze pagina vind je de samenvatting van de lezing die dr. Phillips tijdens de conferentie zal geven: ​"Do you hear what I hear?: What do we know about human perception of music, and what can / should we teach tomorrow's musicians?". Deelname aan het congres is gratis voor VvM-leden; € 40 voor niet-leden. Daarnaast wordt op zaterdagavond een congresdiner georganiseerd (Bar Pavlov). De kosten van het diner bedragen €50,00, inclusief 2 drankjes p.p., met vegetarische opties. Tickets met diner zijn alleen beschikbaar tot 27 februari om 23:59.

Ter ere van het 200-jarig bestaan van het Koninklijk Conservatorium wordt voorafgaand aan het congres, op 6 maart, een symposium gehouden waar VvM-leden en collega's van het Koninklijk Conservatorium worden uitgenodigd om lezingen en/of workshops te geven. Het programma zal gepubliceerd worden op de VvM website.

Graag willen wij geïnteresseerden aanmoedigen om lid te worden van de Vereniging voor Muziektheorie. Dat kan door het aanmeldingsformulier dat u op onze webpagina kunt vinden (https://www.dfsmt.net/becoming-a-member.html) te downloaden en op te sturen naar [email protected]. The Dutch-Flemish Society for Music Theory, in collaboration with the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, is pleased to organize an international conference focussed on the theme Music Theory and Education Through the Ages, which will take place from 7 to 8 March, 2026 . The conference will be held in light of the festivities of the 200th anniversary of the Royal Conservatoire.

The conference theme will be approached from diverse repertoires, styles, genres, and performance practices. The Society feels it will be interesting and important that diverse educational aspects and approaches from the wide field of music theory education are represented. We are happy to welcome Dr Michelle Phillips, Head of Enterprise (Academic) and a Senior Lecturer in Music Psychology at the Royal Northern College of Music, as our keynote speaker. Below on the page, you will find the abstract of the lecture that Dr. Phillips will deliver at the conference: "Do you hear what I hear?: What do we know about human perception of music, and what can / should we teach tomorrow's musicians?". Participation in the congress is free for VvM members; €40 for non-members. In addition, a congress dinner will be organized on Saturday evening (Bar Pavlov). In honour of the 200th anniversary of the Royal Conservatoire, a symposium will be held prior to the conference, on the 6th of March, where VvM members and colleagues from the Royal Conservatoire are invited to give lectures and/or workshops (the program will be placed on the website).
