DEYU is a Bristol-based collective reworking the music of MF DOOM through live jazz, hip-hop,and improvisation. The group includes musicians from Snazzback, Waldo’s Gift, and Binbag Wisdom, artists known for pushing the boundaries of genre and form within Bristol’sexperimental scene. Rather than playing straight covers, DEYU reshapes DOOM’s catalogue, including Operation:Doomsday, MM..FOOD, Madvillainy, and Special Herbs, into a set of live reinterpretations. Their approach blends instrumental deconstruction, original verses, and spontaneous interplay,highlighting both the complexity and creativity of DOOM’s original work. Their performances combine detailed lyrical tributes, instrumental explorations of DOOM’s beats, and moments of extended jazz improvisation. The result is a dynamic set that moves fluidly between structure and freedom, celebrating DOOM’s legacy while presenting something entirely their own.
Following a revered mini tour, DEYU has filled some of the UK’s most respected live venues:
