On Saturday 11th June 10am - 12pm

Cost: £15 - £20 per person. Bursary places available.

Age 16+

Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for a practical workshop.

This workshop is a must for professional and semi-professional theatre makers and anyone interested in an exciting and authentic theatre form that lends itself to a range of performance styles. Explore the use of verbatim in devising, finding ways to work the real words of real people into performances, bringing their stories to life in new and innovative ways. In this practical workshop you will work in small groups, using recordings and transcripts to develop improvised scenes and physical storytelling. Learn more about the ethics of verbatim as a style, and come away ready to take the techniques learnt into your own work.

Suspension Theatre CIC is a not-for-profit theatre company making innovative work with a social conscience. Their current project ‘Sugar?’ is a blend of verbatim theatre, physical storytelling and live and recorded sound to bring the real words and powerful stories of homeless people to life on stage. Performances are at the Wardrobe Theatre on 16th and 17th June at 19.30, before transferring to Greenside @ Nicolson Square for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.

The facilitators are Anne Mowbray, Belle Day, Lily Bearwish and Zoe Vearncombe from Suspension Theatre. Between them, they have a huge range of experience over many years of theatre-making, from directing, dramaturgy and youth theatre, to teaching, dance and music. They all have extensive performance and directing credits including the Bath Festival, Bristol One Act Festival (multiple awards), Edinburgh Fringe, and National Theatre Connections finalists.

The cost of this workshop is £15 for the workshop alone, or £20 for the workshop plus a ticket to ‘Sugar?’ at the Wardrobe Theatre on Thursday 16th June (full price tickets are £10).
