Embrace the spirit of Navaratri with Carnatic vocalist Sudha Raghuraman as she presents a soul-stirring recital in praise of Goddess Durga’s many divine forms.
Celebrating the spirit of Navaratri, this recital honours the divine force of Shakti – Durga, the eternal Mother Goddess revered for her strength, compassion, and power to vanquish evil. Her triumph over Mahishasura remains a timeless reminder of righteousness prevailing over tyranny, and it is this essence that the evening seeks to evoke through music.
Drawing on verses of saint-poets and works of contemporary composers, the performance presents the many forms of Devi, including Bhavani, Parvati, Aparna, Haimavati, Bhagavati, and Katyayani, woven into a rich tapestry of languages such as Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, and Kannada.
At the helm is Sudha Raghuraman, an acclaimed Carnatic vocalist, composer, and educator whose artistry bridges tradition and innovation. Trained under the guidance of her father and grandfather and enriched by her studies in violin, Sudha has become a widely travelled performer featured at prestigious festivals across India and abroad. Her repertoire, praised for both depth and emotive power, spans more than 500 recordings and numerous acclaimed compositions for dance and music ensembles.
For this recital, she is joined by an accomplished ensemble featuring Govindarajan Raghuraman on flute, Vijay Muralidharan on violin, M. V. Chander Shekar on mridangam, and A Muralikrishnan on ghatam. Together, they offer an evocative journey in melody – an ode to the eternal feminine, a devotional offering, and a celebration of Devi’s enduring presence across time and culture.
This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
