The movement patterns and reflexes that we develop as infants form the essential matrix for our movement potential as adults. How each of us expresses our embodiment through this matrix is unique, but there are fundamental principles that can guide us, and which can be integrated at any stage of life.
In this workshop we’ll explore the “pre-vertebrate” patterns: early developmental states that we experience in utero and in the weeks after birth. Embodying these fluid states can help us to balance our physical tone, find soft spinal movement from head to tail, and organize the movement of our 6 limbs as we find support from the earth, space and other bodies. There will be guided hands-on work, experiential anatomy, playful movement scores and integration time for dancing, writing, and sharing.
This workshop is for anyone with an interest in deepening their embodiment practice through movement and touch. Some background in Contact Improvisation and/or other somatic practices is helpful but not required.

Body-Mind Centering® is an approach to embodiment training developed by somatics pioneer Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. The work explores the relationship between movement and mind, and is based on developmental, anatomical and physiological principles.
