About this Event
Librarians teach information literacy skills and how to find credible information in databases, but they often stop there. This workshop will introduce you to how to go beyond databases by preparing you to teach a few writing skills to help students to build confidence to "write in their own words" in order to prevent unintentional plagiarism. We will learn the skills of paraphrasing and summarizing with a host of handouts and practice exercises that you can turnkey in your own instruction. You will walk away with worksheets, graphic organizers, and lesson plans to use with your students. We will also discuss forms of plagiarism, why students plagiarize, designing plagiarism-proof assignments, and artificial intelligence's role in committing plagiarism. You are welcome to bring your teacher partners!
