About this Event

Trosolwg

Gan ddefnyddio cyd-destunau lleol megis Abertawe a Gŵyr, bydd cyfranogwyr yn ystyried sut y gall mapio gefnogi ymdeimlad dysgwyr o gynefin tra’n darparu cyfleoedd ystyrlon i gymhwyso rhifedd mewn sefyllfaoedd byd go iawn.Bydd cyfranogwyr yn archwilio sut y gellir defnyddio mapiau i ddatblygu cysyniadau rhifiadol allweddol gan gynnwys safle, cyfesurynnau, cyfeiriannau, uchder, graddfa, pellter, amser a chynllunio teithiau. Bydd y sesiwn yn symud y tu hwnt i ddulliau gweithdrefnol i ystyried sut y gall dysgwyr ddefnyddio rhesymu mathemategol i ddehongli gwybodaeth ofodol, adnabod patrymau, cymharu data a gwneud penderfyniadau gwybodus. Rhoddir pwyslais arbennig ar ddylunio gweithgareddau sy’n ystyrlon yn ddaearyddol ac yn heriol yn fathemategol.Drwy enghreifftiau ymarferol a gweithgareddau cynllunio cydweithredol, bydd cyfranogwyr yn gwerthuso tasgau mapio presennol, yn eu haddasu i gynyddu lefel yr her, ac yn archwilio sut y gellir defnyddio offer digidol megis Google Earth ac Excel i greu profiadau dysgu deniadol sy’n gyfoethog o ran data. Bydd y cwrs yn cefnogi ymarferwyr i wreiddio rhifedd drwy fapio yn systematig o fewn eu cwricwlwm, gan sicrhau dilyniant a chydlyniad ar draws CA3 a thu hwnt.

Cynulleidfa Darged

Athrawon cynradd ac uwchradd sy’n dymuno datblygu dulliau dilys o addysgu rhifedd drwy ddaearyddiaeth a mapio. Mae’r sesiwn yn addas ar gyfer ymarferwyr sydd am gryfhau sgiliau rhesymu mathemategol, ymwybyddiaeth ofodol a datrys problemau dysgwyr drwy gyd-destunau daearyddol ystyrlon.

Amcanion y Sesiwn

Erbyn diwedd y sesiwn bydd cyfranogwyr yn gallu:

  • Datblygu dealltwriaeth glir o sut y gall mapiau ddarparu cyd-destunau dilys a phwrpasol ar gyfer rhifedd.
  • Cryfhau gwybodaeth bwnc a dulliau addysgeg ar gyfer addysgu safle, cyfesurynnau, cyfeiriannau, uchder, graddfa, pellter a chynllunio teithiau drwy weithgareddau mapio.
  • Archwilio sut y gall mapio helpu dysgwyr i ddehongli data gofodol, adnabod patrymau a gwneud penderfyniadau gwybodus.
  • Gwerthuso lefel yr her a’r galw mathemategol mewn gweithgareddau sy’n seiliedig ar fapio.
  • Dylunio ac addasu tasgau sy’n gofyn i ddysgwyr gymhwyso, esbonio a chyfiawnhau eu meddwl mathemategol.
  • Datblygu hyder wrth ddefnyddio offer digidol megis Google Earth ac Excel i gefnogi dysgu rhifedd.
  • Creu profiadau dysgu cyfoethog o ran data sy’n gysylltiedig â chyd-destunau lleol a byd go iawn.
  • Nodi cyfleoedd i wreiddio rhifedd drwy fapio mewn cynlluniau cwricwlwm er mwyn cefnogi dilyniant a chydlyniad ar draws CC3 & 4.

Overview

Maps provide one of the richest and most authentic contexts for developing numeracy within the geography curriculum. This professional learning session explores how mapping activities can strengthen learners’ geographical understanding while simultaneously developing mathematical knowledge, skills and reasoning. Drawing on local contexts such as Swansea and Gower, participants will consider how mapping can support learners’ sense of cynefin whilst providing meaningful opportunities to apply numeracy in real-world situations.

Participants will explore how maps can be used to develop key numerical concepts including position, coordinates, bearings, elevation, scale, distance, time and journey planning. The session will move beyond procedural approaches to consider how learners can use mathematical reasoning to interpret spatial information, identify patterns, compare data and make informed decisions. Particular emphasis will be placed on designing activities that are both geographically meaningful and mathematically demanding.

Through practical examples and collaborative planning activities, participants will evaluate existing mapping tasks, adapt them to increase challenge, and explore how digital tools such as Google Earth and Excel can be used to create engaging, data-rich learning experiences. The course will support practitioners to embed mapping-based numeracy systematically within their curriculum, ensuring progression and coherence across Key Stage 3 and beyond.

Target Audience

Primary and secondary teachers seeking to develop authentic approaches to numeracy through geography and mapping. The session is suitable for practitioners who wish to strengthen learners’ mathematical reasoning, spatial awareness and problem-solving skills through meaningful geographical contexts.

Session Aims

By the end of the session participants will:

· Develop a clear understanding of how maps can provide authentic and purposeful contexts for numeracy.

· Strengthen subject knowledge and pedagogical approaches for teaching position, coordinates, bearings, elevation, scale, distance and journey planning through mapping activities.

· Explore how mapping can support learners to interpret spatial data, identify patterns and make informed decisions.

· Evaluate the level of challenge and mathematical demand within mapping-based activities.

· Design and adapt tasks that require learners to apply, explain and justify their mathematical thinking.

· Develop confidence in using digital tools such as Google Earth and Excel to support numeracy learning.

· Create data-rich learning experiences linked to local and real-world geographical contexts.

· Identify opportunities to embed mapping-based numeracy within curriculum planning to support progression and coherence across PS3 and 4.
