Miten: Finding My Soul
I had it good: a loving partner, a newborn son, and a successful music career in 1970s London, a time of great musical discovery. I witnessed legends like Stevie Wonder, The Byrds, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen. Music was my life, but eventually, I felt increasingly alienated. Sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll lost their meaning, and I found myself facing existential questions I couldn’t answer. The music industry became hollow, and I lost my inner drive.
At 29, I found a small book, No Water No Moon, which set me on a spiritual journey. I went to Osho’s ashrams in India and Oregon, where I found a new home and encountered Kundalini meditation. In the community, I discovered inner peace and began to see the "real me." I was given the name Prabhu Miten. My life took a spiritual turn, where music and meditation became my practice.
In the ashram, I found the courage to face my past, embrace life’s challenges, and let music flow again. Through the power of mantra and meditation, I rediscovered my true calling.
Deva: Finding My Voice
Deva Premal grew up in a musical family with a classical musician mother and an artist father fascinated by Middle Eastern rhythms. Her childhood was filled with music, mantras, and mystical stories. At 11, she discovered Osho, and at 17, she traveled to India to join his ashram, immersing herself in Zen teachings and healing arts.
It was there she met Miten. Reconnecting with her childhood mantra, the Gayatri Mantra, Deva found her voice again, and together with Miten, they reinterpreted the mantra for a Western audience. Their collaboration birthed Deva’s first album, The Essence, recorded in her mother’s apartment. Since then, they’ve released over 25 albums, traveling the world and sharing the transformative power of the Gayatri Mantra.
