Detroit Architects Lecture: Van Leyen, Schilling & Keough

Schedule

Sat Aug 29 2026 at 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

UTC-04:00
Location

5401 Woodward Avenue, 48202 | Detroit, MI

The demolished works of architect Edward C. Van Leyen often compete for attention with his surviving buildings, thanks to the many late 19th-century designs masterfully illustrated by his associate, Edward A. Schilling, and published in the Chicago architectural journal The Inland Architect and News Record.
Join author, photographer, and architectural historian Dale A. Carlson for an exploration of the lives and careers of Edward C. Van Leyen, Edward A. Schilling, and Henry J. Keough, featuring Schilling’s remarkable drawings alongside the partnership’s impressive surviving works, including the Belle Isle Casino, Fordson High School in Dearborn, Holy Family Catholic Church in downtown Detroit, Greenfield Union Elementary School on Seven Mile Road, and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, formerly located at 8373 Townsend Street.
