Red Curtain Theatre welcomes DETRA DENISE LIVE in THIS DIAMOND HAS FLAWS!Detra Denise, an Arkansas native, was thrust into the spotlight in 2022 when Humans of New York featured her in a riveting 15-chapter story of her escape on the side of the interstate from her pastor husband in 2015 and her intense struggle to make a life in New York City. The success of the story produced six movie offers and the exciting signing of a deal. The December issue of the Arkansas Times named her the “Best Comeback of 2022.” Life has changed dramatically for Detra, and she now owns her own home and a line of cigars called Detra’s Story.
Music has played an integral role in her life since the age of 4 and continues to be a source of healing. In 2016, Detra performed her first music show in New York. She has over 20 New York shows in her resume, most recently performing at 54 Below in Manhattan. She has put together a group of eclectic songs, some original, and adds narrative to weave the story of her escape, loss of what she had known the first 54 years of life, and the freedom she has found. Yes, she shines, but this diamond has flaws!
