DesignLab Exhibit Opening: Voja Antonic | Passion Projects
About this Event
Join us for the opening of Voja Antonic | Passion Projects
There are makers, and then there is Voja Antonić...
Born in Serbia, Antonić began tinkering with electronics in elementary school and never stopped. In the early 1980s he designed the Galaksija: Yugoslavia's first widely distributed build-it-yourself home computer, releasing the plans freely so that anyone with a soldering iron could build one. Thousands did.
Now based in Pasadena, California, Antonić is well known in the open source hardware world for his work designing iconic conference badges for Hackaday Superconference. Beginning with the celebrated 2016 Superconference badge and continuing through a series of increasingly ambitious designs, each badge pushed the boundary between functional object and artwork. They are things people keep. Things people collect.
Passion Projects gathers something rarer: his personal work. What unifies the collection is his command of electronics as an expressive medium. Color is not incidental here, it is structural. Light is not decorative, it is the subject. Across these pieces, electronics and illumination are woven together dynamically, shifting and responding, technical and alive.
At this very special exhibit, we open a window into the studio mind of one of the most original figures working at the edges of art and technology.
Light refreshments will be provided.
After the opening night, the show will be available to view by appointment only from 5-9pm June 15-19. Please contact Voja at [email protected] to schedule an appointment if you would like to view the exhibit during these hours.
