Designing Your Hellstrip at Stark

Join Whitney from Portland Nursery for a class on how to create a garden between the sidewalk and the street. This space, often called a hellstrip for good reason, presents a variety of opportunities and limitations to gardening because it's typically a hot, dry, and small space. In this class, Whitney will review a wide variety of topics to consider when planting in your hellstrip: City of Portland regulations for safety and visibility, planting for compacted soil types, drought tolerance, the pros and cons of planting edibles, planting for pollinators, maintenance, and considering cars.

***Classes this fall will be held in our Greenhouse1, which is located in the main courtyard, right across from the store. It is a large greenhouse that functions as a covered outdoor area. If the weather is warm, we will have fans on and water available, but please remember to dress so that you are comfortable during the presentation.***
