Richard says - our towns and cities have been changing in recent years at a speed which is unprecedented in modern times. Some of this has been driven by changes in the way we shop, work and socialise while other very rapid shifts in behaviour were caused by the global pandemic. This talk will draw on examples from studies of towns and cities across Northern Europe and will explore how we might be able to remodel our towns and cities with people – rather than technology or economics – at the heart of our decisions. All are welcome!
About our speaker – Richard is a Professor at Northumbria University, having worked in research and teaching for over 25 years. His research has often focussed on the connected themes of collaboration and participation within the design of urban space. Examples of relevant research include work undertaken through the EU, often in collaboration with partners from city councils across Europe. The subject of visualisation and its use within the public evaluation of open space, built heritage and urban design has provided a thread running through the work.
