About this Event
Design Your Own Death Shroud: 2-Part Workshop
In many traditions and lineages, people are surrounded by cloth at the time of their burial. Often these cloths are plain, solid colors and some are ornate with symbols of protection for the deceased or symbols that tell the story of one’s life.

Join Death Doula, Katie Cosgrove, and ritual leader/embroidery artist, Lane-Mairead Campbell, in a 2-session series that explores how to design our own death shroud. Utilizing imaginative meditation, cultural and historical exploration, and symbology, participants will emerge with their own shroud design as well as the tools to equip them to make their own or to find folks to make them.
This ticket covers both sessions of the class. Both sessions will take place at the Unreliable Narrator, 302 N. Goodman, Ste. #E101, Rochester, NY.
No one turned away for lack of funds. If you require a scholarship, please email Lane-Mairead Campbell at: [email protected].
Agenda
Session One (Oct. 29th): History & Symbols
Info: In session one of the series on October 29th, we will be exploring the history of death shrouds and the narrative of different symbols that are used around these traditions. Towards the end of our time together, we will offer folks space to start planning what they might want on their own death shroud.
Session Two (Nov. 3rd): Materials & Designing
Info: In session two on November 3rd, we will check back in on different questions, ideas and themes folks have come up with since our last session together and introduce some different types of cloths. The bulk of this session will be creative time, allowing everyone to start to materialize their ideas.
