If you are considering how to recreate historical baskets or to make the design of a basket original, then this workshop may be just what you need. Alternatively, if you are considering taking on a formal qualification in basketry, such as the City and Guilds, you may wish to have a ‘head start’ on the design element of the programme. We will look at colour theory, texture, shape and form and apply them to the design of baskets. We will also look at how you make use of this information to create job sheets including materials needed, time and how this is costed.At the workshop you will learn how to:
• Experiment with a range of materials and mediums safely and correctly;
• Record experiments creatively and imaginatively;
• Apply colour theory, the study of texture, shape and form to basketmaking;
• Apply your study of design to your future basketmaking.
At the end of the workshop, you will take home your design folder and work completed as part of the day. You will also take home handouts and information to guide your future design work to inform your basketmaking.
