Design an Underwater Home: 2-day Camp* (Jul)
About this Event
As sea levels rise, how might architecture adapt?
In this two-day camp, students will dive into future-focused design as they take on the challenge of creating innovative underwater homes for life beneath the sea.
As Ocean Pioneers, students will design futuristic dwellings anchored deep below the ocean’s surface, creating dynamic and livable spaces that can withstand one of Earth’s most extreme environments.
The mission begins on Day 1, where students develop conceptual sketches, mapping out living quarters and planning the essential systems needed for survival beneath the waves. They will then bring their ideas to life through 3D prototyping, transforming their drawings into tangible architectural models.
Putting their imagination and problem-solving skills to the test, students will explore creative solutions for powering their homes, generating fresh air, and sustaining food supplies in an environment where sunlight may never reach.
As resources become limited, it becomes a race to innovate. Through experimentation and design thinking, students will discover how architecture and engineering can transform one of Earth’s most hostile environments into a thriving underwater sanctuary.
Building up from plan to 3D prototype
On Day 2, the focus shifts to detailing and refinement. Students will build upon their Day 1 prototypes, adding necessary components, such as lift towers for access and food catchments for survival, as well as structural reinforcements to make their underwater colonies truly functional. It’s a hands-on path of creative problem-solving and big-picture thinking, where every design choice is intentional.
DesignTinkers camps are thoughtfully curated and led by a passionate team of educators, architects and designers with a shared mission: to inspire and empower young minds through design. With extensive experience working with children, our instructors are dedicated to nurturing each student’s creative interests in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment. All our camps are held in our spacious and conducive classrooms where students can create and explore freely under guidance.
