2220 welcomes Desert Magic for a concert and celebration of their new LP *True Power.* Opening the night will be their friends Stuart Wheeler and Jesse Quebbeman-Turley, presenting their interpretations of 14th century balladeer Guillaume De Machaut.
~
**Desert Magic** is celebrating the release of their album "True Power," a collection of musical settings of Ursula K. Le Guin's translation of the Tao Te Ching. The recordings feature an expanded line-up that includes Alex Wand (viola da gamba, resonator guitar, voice), Steven Van Betten (electric guitar, voice), Logan Hone (drums, saxophone, voice), Heather Lockie (viola), Stuart Wheeler (voice, organ), KCM Walker (hurdy-gurdy, lute), and Brock Stuessi (upright bass). The album will be available through sadfam records as a digital release + a limited-edition songbook complete with music notation and lyrics.

**Stuart Wheeler** (b. 1991) and **Jesse Quebbeman-Turley** (b. 1991) present their renditions of the fictional ballades composed by Guillaume De Machaut (c. 1300-1377) and experimentally translated from medieval French into English by Isaac Watts (1674-1748). Their interpretations remind that the past is not a place, but a question: who makes this music? Not in the form of an icon, but of a phantasm.
