Alors que l'on célèbre en 2026 le 250e anniversaire de l'adoption de la Déclaration d'indépendance par les treize colonies américaines, les Académies nationales des sciences de France et des États-Unis ont décidé de saisir cette occasion pour souligner le lien historique et durable qui unit les deux pays en matière scientifique. Depuis le mouvement des Lumières, qui inspira les Pères fondateurs, jusqu'aux avancées technologiques actuelles, y compris l'intelligence artificielle, la France et les États-Unis n'ont cessé de stimuler mutuellement leur progrès, contribuant ainsi à façonner l'avenir de la recherche et de l'innovation.

Au-delà des thèmes scientifiques, ce symposium à vocation grand public abordera des enjeux clés tels que la culture scientifique, la place de la science dans la décision publique et la liberté académique.

Le programme se déroulera sur quatre sessions d'une demi-journée, ponctuées d'intermèdes artistiques qui offriront des moments de pause et de créativité.

As the year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the thirteen American colonies, the French and U.S. National Academies of Sciences are seizing this opportunity to highlight the historic and enduring scientific ties between the two countries. From the Enlightenment, which inspired the Founding Fathers, to today’s cutting-edge advances in emerging technologies includingartificial intelligence, France and the United States have long fostered one another’s progress, helping to shape the future of research and innovation.

In addition to scientific themes, this public-oriented symposium will address key issues such as scientific literacy, science advice, and academic freedom.

The program will unfold over four half-day sessions, punctuated by artistic interludes that offer moments of pause and creativity.
