While living in La Crosse, Derek won the Great River Folk Festival singer-songwriter award. It was after this that Derek went on to form Raising Red and has since released 2 studio albums with his bandmates. Derek has opened up for the Bellamy Brothers, Nelson, Cole Ritter and the Night Owls, and Wayland while performing in clubs, wineries, and dive bars throughout the Midwest.
