Moonshine, White Lightning, Corn Squeezin's... whatever its name, illegal liquor has long been a controversial enterprise that gets included in few official histories. Interestingly, Denton County has long had an intimate if conflicted relationship with alcoholic beverages, a history of bootleggers, outlaws, and entrepreneurs that offers a unique perspective on the development of many Texas communities. Dr. Shaun Treat will share some of this "History of Hooch in Denton County" as a precursor to today's renewed interest in craft beer, Texas whiskey, and popular draft houses or growler bars and local distilleries that are reinvigorating many downtown Texas communities.
