Denise La Grassa Music on the Lawn - Late Night at the Galleries

Noted local performer Denise La Grassa will bring her multi-media performance group for a special al fresco event on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at 6 PM, as a fundraiser for the Jackie Sabath Exhibition Fund that supports the challenging and sometimes controversial gallery exhibits at The Art Center.

“We were thrilled to find a date to host Denise and her group. She’ll perform with one of my favorite people, artist Cheryl ‘Sholo’ Beverly, as she creates a work of art inspired by the music, the night, and the crowd,” says James M Lynch, Executive Director. “This Late Night at the Galleries series has really taken off and we’re excited to cap off the Summer with this one-of-a-kind event”.

New City Magazine Music Editor Robert Rodi wrote, “ … she’s also sufficiently a woman of her time to pull in influences as diverse as funk and folk. And her compelling contralto owes more to Grace Slick than Sarah Vaughan.”

Bring-your-own seating on the lawn, open wine and beer bar, and access to the galleries until one hour after the entertainment is over. The exhibit that weekend will be the Midwest premiere of photography by famed French photographer, Henri Dauman: Looking Up. “Henri’s photography documents some of the most important events and personalities of the 20th Century, from the Kennedys, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Buddhist priests in Vietnam, and the Castro revolution. His images capture the American experience during the ’50s, 60’s and 70’s, producing iconic images for the covers of Time, Life Magazine, and various other publications, many of which are still relevant today.”

Because of COVID restrictions, this event will NOT move inside in case of inclement weather.
