Welcome to Demystifying Human Factors
The event is open to those with a dedicated role or interest in patient safety, Medic*tion safety or quality improvement.
Join us for Part 2 of our two-part insightful event aimed at increasing awareness of Human Factors principles and methods and application to Medic*tion Safety, aligned with the Department of Health Medic*tion Safety Strategy Transforming Medic*tion Safety Northern Ireland (TMSNI). This is your opportunity to learn from internationally recognised Human Factors specialists and learn and apply Human Factors to improve safer outcomes.

Host: Angela Carrington
Info: Lead Pharmacist for Medic*tion Safety, HSC Northern Ireland. BSc Pharm, PGDip Pharm, MPA, Scil (Scottish Quality Improvement Leader) Cohort 19, PGDip Human Factors for Patient Safety
Lead Pharmacist for Medic*tion Safety for Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland. With over 25 yearsâ experience in the Healthcare sector, underpinned by 18 years in dedicated strategic and operational Medic*tion safety roles.
Angela supported the Department of Health to develop âTransforming Medic*tion Safety in Northern Irelandâ and is now leading its implementation. She also leads the trustsâ Medic*tion Safety Team who work collaboratively across the region to prevent avoidable Medic*tion related harm and protect patient safety.
Angela has qualifications and experience in clinical Ph*rm*cy, management and leadership, patient safety and risk management, research, quality improvement and Human Factors. She has started a PhD at the University of Reading to develop and pilot an e-prescribing safety

Host: Prof. Paul Bowie
Info: Paul is a patient safety scientist, medical educator and chartered ergonomist & human factors expert with over 30 years of experience leading and collaborating in research, innovation and educational development to improve the quality and safety of healthcare in the UK and internationally. His main role is Programme Director (Safety & Improvement) with NHS Education for Scotland.
Paul is also Professor of Healthcare Human Factors at the University of Staffordshire and Honorary Professor in the School of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal College of General Practitioners, and a Registered Member of the UK Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, where he is also the Healthcare Special Interest Group Lead on Patient Safety.

Host: Dr Helen Vosper
Info: Helen is a chartered Human Factors specialist and an experienced educator with extensive experience of teaching Human Factors to healthcare students and professionals. She is currently the lead for Patient Safety in the Institute of Education in Healthcare and Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen. Helen also has a part-time role as a Senior Investigation Science Educator at the Health Services Safety Investigations Body (formerly Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch; HSIB). Helen is part of the team at Loughborough University, developing and delivering the training required for Levels 3 and 4 of the National Patient Safety Syllabus. She is a scientific adviser in Human Factors and Patient Safety to NHS Education for Scotland
