Rodney Red Grant is a humanitarian, a father of 3 daughters, a husband of a retired Police Officer, a business owner for more than 24 years; he is a walking, talking Chief Executive Officer. This is why he is running for the city executive seat, known by most to be, Mayor. Mr. Grant attended Dunbar Senior High School, where he became a standout student-athlete and participant in the former Mayor Marion Barry’s Summer Youth Employment Program. He went on to start a comedy career at Mr. Henry’s in Adams Morgan. It didn’t take long before he was offered the opportunity to tape Def Comedy Jam, Teen Summit, and Showtime at the Apollo. This catapulted his career and he was hired by BET to host, write, and produce shows for Teen Summit at both the Washington D.C. and New York City campuses. As he reached the highest levels of success in his entertainment career, he was compelled to give back to my community. In 2020, He started my own youth outreach program “Don’t Shoot Guns, Shoot Cameras” as a violence prevention program, focused on exposing youth to the fundamentals of film-making. Now running as an independent candidate he aims to transition his passion for people, networking, and visionary management to the Mayors Office and transcend political party gridlock that forestall growth and equitable prosperity in Washington D.C.
