Democracy Under Siege: Radical Resistance Required

Metropolitan Community College – Penn Valley Education Center

Kansas City is at a critical inflection point. In a special session, the Missouri Legislature advanced a congressional map splitting the city into three districts, weakening our collective voice, and passed restrictions on the initiative petition process, making it harder for voters to hold lawmakers accountable.
This year’s 18th Annual Urban Summit Conference is a call to action for all who believe in the power of democracy. Together we will confront systemic attacks on civil rights, equity, and justice—and chart bold solutions to protect our community.
What to Expect
- Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II – Analyzes Missouri’s redistricting map and its impact on the voting power of Black and Hispanic communities.
- Terrance Woodbury, President & Founding Partner of HIT Strategies – Shares cutting-edge research on voter apathy, engagement, and what motivates people to vote.
- Urban League’s 2025 State of Black Kansas City Report – Gwendolyn Grant unveils the Black/White Equality Index, followed by a fireside chat on economics, education, health, social justice, and civic engagement.
For nearly two decades, Urban Summit has led a strategic movement to tackle disparities in economic development, housing, education, and justice across Kansas City’s urban core. Your participation helps sustain this critical work and drive change.
This is more than a conference—it’s a movement.
Join us, lend your voice, and help ensure democracy not only survives, but thrives.
Reserve your seat today and be part of the change.
