Dementia support through football: A new way of meeting inequalities in dementia by Dr Marie Poole
About this Event

As dementia rates rise and health and care services remain underfunded, innovative community support is vital. Football clubs and their charitable foundations are uniquely positioned to assist people living with dementia and their families. Though this approach is new, co-produced resources within these community settings could significantly improve access to support for those most in need.

Biography: Dr Marie Poole, Newcastle University

Dr Marie Poole is a Senior Research Associate and National Institute for Health and Care ARC Dementia Research Fellow at Newcastle University. Improving care and support for people living with dementia and their families is at the heart of her research. Marie advocates for ensuring that people from underserved communities are able to access appropriate information and support to live well with dementia. She leads research on understanding integrated, novel and culturally appropriate dementia support. This includes exploring the role of football-based initiatives for community dementia support.
