Sunday, September 29thThe plan for everyone to meet at the parking lot behind the Baseball Fields on the corner of Bank Street and Elsie Lane, in Fairfax at 8:00am for an 8:30 spin.
Road riders will ride up Bolinas Road for a while which at some point, will turn into Bolinas/Fairfax Road. You'll continue past Alpine Dam then it’s left on to Ridgecrest Blvd up to the summit of Mt Tamalpias. After a much needed break and a few photos, (but not long) you’ll descend back to the corner of West and East Ridgecrest Blvd, hang a left and descend on Pantoll Road. From the bottom of Pantoll Road, the group willl take a right onto the Panoramic Highway which will end at Highway 1. We’ll have a brief coffee break and regrouping at a small outdoor coffee vendor here (if he’s still there) then we’ll hang a right and take the Highway 1 North (Shoreline Hwy) to Olema. After another brief break, fuel stop and regrouping in Olema, we’ll then head inland for the climb back up Sir Francis Drake Blvd back to Fairfax! This ride will definitely put you in the hurt locker if you’re not used to climbing a bit.
For the gravel grinders, we’ll follow Neil Salazar’s epic Mt Tamalpias Gravel grinder route! We’ll meander through town and find our way to the Indian Fire Road and up Hoo Koo E Koo to Railroad Grade to West Point Inn. We’ll continue up Railroad Grade to Ridgecrest Blvd and to the summit of Mt. Tamalpias. We will do the reverse trip back to Fairfax! Sweet dirt climbing and fast descents awaits the energetic dirt surfers! We will bypass Eldridge Grade on the accent and descent this time around.
It does not matter what route or bike you choose to ride, because it’s gonna be an awesome day out on the coast! One where you’ll be able to ride among the tall redwood trees, smell the salty air of the Pacific Ocean and challenge yourself! Plan ahead for ample fuel, hydration and items needed for mechanicals and unpredictable weather. This is a self supported ride and as always, we ride at our own risk.
Let up know if you’re coming and it’s BYOL (Buy Your Own Lunch) at The Gestalt Haus! They came highly recommended and word on the street is their Ruben Sandwiches are off the charts! And, you get to hang your bike on the walls while you eat a well deserved meal! So this time around, NO potluck lunch for the hungry masses!
Carpool recommended, and as usual, come for the ride and stay for the fun, friendship and laughter!
