He calls himself Dellow. He’s a multi-instrumental dynamo who plays guitar in Moody Cat, bass in the Sean Lehe Trio and whatever is called for otherwise. Dellow doesn’t just play; he soars into the stratosphere. When he wields a guitar – as he will on this occasion – expect to find yourself standing in awe of his virtuosity and breathtaking creativity. His slide playing, in particular, has become a deadly weapon in his arsenal. Dellow is oozing with soul – both instrumentally and vocally. He has an upper register vocal range which enables him to nail certain songs that most wouldn’t dare. The Berklee College of Music grad is a deep thinker and dreamer who is committed to non-stop evolution. Dellow has cooked up quite a lineup for us here, starting with Ezra Lipp (ALO, Phil Lesh & Friends, Stu Allen) on drums and vocals. He’s a perfect match for this project as a relentless instigator of improvisation and purveyor of tasteful eclecticism. There are no normal moments when Ezra is behind the kit. Jazz-funk bass master, Jonathan Stoyanoff (Joe Craven, Band Beyond Description) is almost as fun to watch as he is to hear. He owns the best “bass face” we know which is only a result of him having to channel the incredible feats his fingers are achieving up and down the fret board. Groovy to the core!
If there’s an X-factor in the equation, it’s definitely keyboard wizard Andre Fylling. It’s been several years since he’s been on the Crazy Horse stage and it will be a thrill to have him back. Going with the theme, Andre is one of the more unconventional keyboardists you’ll see. He pushes the envelope in terms of sonic, electro acrobatics and has an uncanny ability to pull through the perfect counterpoints for everything his bandmates are playing.
Expect an evening of adventurous funk, soul, jazz, rock jams with exquisite takes on cool covers as well as originals. If you don’t know Dellow yet, now is the opportunity to see why he’s one of the hottest rising stars in Nor Cal.
