What if families in Wilmington had greater access to community-centered, culturally responsive birth care?
Black Mothers In Power invites you to an evening of film, conversation, community and action as we raise funds to help bring a birth center to the City of Wilmington.
The evening will feature a special screening of the documentary Deliver Us, followed by a panel conversation featuring the film's director and midwives.
Deliver Us explores the work of Black midwives and the movement to create alternatives within a maternal healthcare system where Black mothers continue to experience profound disparities.
But this evening isn't only about watching a film.
It's about what we can build here in Wilmington.
Black Mothers In Power is working toward opening a community-centered birth center that expands access to midwifery care, culturally responsive maternal healthcare, education, support and resources for families.
After the screening, we'll bring the conversation home.
Our panel will explore the role of midwives and birth centers in improving maternal health, the barriers facing Black families and birth workers, what we can learn from the stories featured in Deliver Us, and what it will take to expand birth options for families in Delaware.
You'll also hear directly from BMIP about our vision for the Wilmington Birth Center and how you can become part of making it a reality.
