Our summer concert celebrates two queens: The Triumphes of Oriana (1601) is a collection of madrigals in praise of Elizabeth I, and A Garland for the Queen (1953) honoured the coronation of Elizabeth II. Our selection from these two publications includes music by the most celebrated composers of both eras: Tomkins, Morley, and Weelkes from the first Elizabethan age; Finzi, Berkeley, and Ireland from the second. The result is an evening of radiant, royal music — full of warmth, wit, and lyrical charm — brought vividly to life by the Delius Singers.
