DELIGHTFUL DOWNTOWN at Grafton Park is coming back!
Join us on Friday, September 30, at 7:00 pm, as we debut the New Mi'kmaq Heritage Month light projection show at Grafton Park (corner of Grafton Street and Spring Garden). The show will be projected onto the former Halifax Memorial Library.
The Mi’kmaq History Month Show highlights the theme, “Mi’kmaw Beadwork & the Art of Beading.” It also honours and pays tribute to Mi’kmaq elders:
- Elder Rita Joe – residential school survivor and the first Mi’kmaw published author
- Elder Elsie Basque – residential school survivor and first licensed Mi’kmaw public school teacher
- Elder Nora Bernard – residential school survivor and class action initiator
- Elder Doug Knockwood – residential school survivor and Mi’kmaw veteran
The event will feature designated speakers, and drumming and song from Mi'kmaq Native Friendship Centre.
The premiere of the “Mi’kmaq History Month Light Show” projection on the former Halifax Memorial Library will wrap-up the event at sunset, around 7:30 p.m.
The Mi'kmaq History Month Show was designed in partnership with the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre. Mi'kmaw musician Raymond Sewell composed the music for this show.
