Delaware Poverty Simulation: An Interactive Community Experience
About this Event
Delaware Poverty Simulation: An Interactive Community Experience
What would you do if you had to choose between paying for child care, keeping the lights on, buying groceries, or getting to work?
Group Violence Intervention in partnership with United Way of Delaware invites you to take part in the Delaware Poverty Simulation. A completely FREE interactive community experience designed to build understanding, empathy, and stronger connections across our community.
This isn't a presentation—you'll be part of the experience.
Through an immersive role-playing simulation, participants will step into the lives of individuals and families navigating financial hardship. You'll be given a unique family role, responsibilities, resources, and challenges and will have to make real-time decisions as you work to make it through the simulated month.
Along the way, you may have to navigate:
- Housing and monthly bills
- Employment and income
- Child care
- Transportation
- Food and household expenses
- Community services and available resources
- Unexpected emergencies and financial setbacks
Every decision can affect what happens next.
Come Alone or Bring Your Team!
The Poverty Simulation is also a great team-building and professional development opportunity for nonprofits, community organizations, government agencies, educators, healthcare professionals, service providers, and other teams working with individuals and families throughout Delaware.
Participating together gives teams an opportunity to step outside of their everyday roles, problem-solve, communicate, and leave with a deeper understanding of the barriers the people we serve may experience.
Whether you attend individually or bring your entire team, expect an experience that is engaging, collaborative, meaningful, and different from your typical training or workshop.
Best of all, participation is completely FREE.
