Delamont Park Neighbourhood

Walk Description: The purpose of this walk is to learn about some of the history of this area and what effects the Broadway Plan may bring to it through rezoning and new development.
We will be exploring some of the recently approved and proposed new developments in the surrounding few blocks, discuss a section of the area which contains large portions of City-owned housing, talk about and visit City Farmer and an adjacent community-run garden, and also visit and discuss the proposed 20 storey tower at 1960 West 7th.
We will be listening to people who have firsthand knowledge of some of the issues concerning these proposals, plus some of the people involved with the local Gardens.

Walk Leader: I am interested in the planning of the City generally, and Kitsilano Neighbourhood in particular. I am trained as an architect and am an affiliate to the Masters of Urban Design program at UBC. This particular area is interesting as it has been recently designated by the City to be part of what the City calls the Metro Core, with allowable densities equal to that of the Downtown area and the West End. That is transformative if followed. I hope to discuss the pros and cons of such a designation. But the area also contains a variety of features worth discussing, as evidenced by the stops we will make on this Walk.

Starting place: West Broadway and Arbutus. Shell Gas Station.
