win nylon-string guitars, driving Afro-Caribbean percussion, and Alex Ruiz's soaring, gritty vocals — Del Castillo has spent over two decades turning flamenco and Latin rock into a full-throttle live experience. The Austin band's music has soundtracked Robert Rodriguez films like Once Upon a Time in Mexico, as well as Quentin Tarantino's K*ll Bill, Vol. 2, and members of the band also perform as part of Rodriguez's own Chingon Band — bringing that same big, cinematic energy to the stage at Sam's Burger Joint.
The band is no stranger to San Antonio, with recent stops around town that include opening for Los Lonely Boys at the Aztec Theatre and Chingon Band shows at both the Frost Bank Center and the Aztec Theatre.
Since opening in 1999 on San Antonio's Broadway corridor near the Pearl District, Sam's has built a reputation as one of the city's premier live music rooms — with a stage and sound system built to handle a full band at full volume — hosting acts like themselves throughout the years, including Los Lonely Boys, Gary Clark Jr., and the Texas Tornados.
